TR6 71 TR6 Covertible top hardware

Guys,

I am getting a top for my TR6 for my birthday from my Father in-law. He also wants to get me all of the required hardware so it gets used right away and doesn't sit in the garage waiting to be installed. All that I currently have for my car is the frame and the 2 long curved metal covers that attach it to the front and the back. What else do I need? Can I buy it in one big kit? I just don't want to start putting it all together and be missing something. Thanks for any input you have.

Check the TRF or Moss catalogs. You will need a webbing kit and all of the associated pieces, and if you're doing it, now is the time to replace those bad snaps with good ones.


It's also the only time that you'll be able to easily paint or powder coat the folding frame assembly. Doing it now makes the job look really professional when completed.

Get all new weatherstripping and put it on the newly painted frame.

How about the cranks on the front bar that clamp it down to the windshield frame? Are the pins worn?
 
Would the kit you are talking about be one like RFK491 here?

The frame has been completely taken apart sand blasted and repainted by the PO. It looks to be in good working order. What snaps are you referring to? Don't the snaps come with the top?

Well I called TRF and they said I needed RFK490 and RFK491. One is for the front and one is for the side. Man this is going to get pricey. Looks like I need to go through all of the stuff that came with my car from the PO and see what I can find in the boxes. Hopefully it will have the latching hardware. If not that is another $140 new. Does anyone have any ideas of a used source for these items? If so, please pass it on.

They are right, but you still need RFK 495 to get the Webbing Kit.

The kits above are all of the seals, which you really must do, now that it's apart.

Are your front latches worn out? Why do you need new ones?

I still need to go through my parts and look for things very carefully, but I haven't found the front latches and parts. I wouldn't think the P.O. would have trashed them, but you never know. But the main reason is, I haven't found them yet. Thanks for the tip on RFK495.
 
Brent, look for the three channels that go on the front bar, they hold the top and a rubber sealer goes in the channel. They are held in with pop rivelts. Let me know what you need, I'll have a look see if I have it. I'm in NC, so not to far away.

Thanks Wayne for the help. I have been battling the kids the last few nights and haven't been able to get into the garage and get things done. My wife will be home tonight, so I will get out there and lay everything out on a blanket and start going through it. This will probably be a good time to inventory everything I have. I will take pictures of the things I am not sure about and post and ask questions.
