<span style="font-size: 14pt">I've looked at a 1971 Jaguar Series2 roadster LHD ....71 on the ownership but more than likely a 70 that sat on the lot.........very good body, all new chrome and solid frame and undercarriage...interior is nice but not great....seats, and dash are good....however the cars data plate in the engine compartment is missing, the windshield id tag is broken off and there is no date code on the door(although i haven't seen them on every LHD.....(the owner has had it for 20 years so i'm not thinking its stolen or something like that)My question would be how much should this lower the value of the car....or what should i be paying for it</span>Thanks

Ooofa. Is there a number stamped in the frame rail near the right upper shock mount? If you can't find that I would start to worry. 71 6 cylinders are rare, very few produced. If I recall, there should be "running dog" badges on both sides of the bonnet "fenders", and a chrome surround around the bonnet mouth. The underhood vin tags corrode and can come off. Easy enough to replace. The tag on the dash is another matter. It could have been "misplaced" during a windshield replacement or something, but to get a new tag like that might be impossible. It also might indicate a car built from parts of others. Before spending a bunch of bucks, you might contact Jaguar Heritage with the VIN and see exactly what it is supposed to be. FYI, I have a customer w/ a 71 for sale. It has around 30K miles, long term (like 30 plus years) ownership one so so repaint, and a factory hard top. He is asking 45K It is a nice car, so compare the car you are looking at and it s price.

Check out xkedata:

They list about 200 or so in '71. The VIN should start "2R xxxxx" xkedata

+1 to Jesse. I would check the title very carefully. Does the vehicle have any of the "old" UK documents...V5, log book, etc? It could be a bits-a, or just loving hands at home job featuring lost tags?
