MGB 71 MGB Seat belts

Greetings,

My car came with a seat belt that fastens to the rear deck f the car and is totally not adjustable. There are what looks to be something of a wheel from a recoil on the inside wheel well on both sides of the car. Anyway, I have found that with the top down it's next to impossible for the seat belt to work properly and it binds up in the top frame etc. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on what to set-up on the mg.

cheers,

John in VA

Kangol inertia reel seatbelts were an option and are what I have on my 71 BGT. The inertia reels are attached to brackets that bolt into the tops of the rear wheel wells. I doubt if you can get the kangols any more but there are inertia reels that will probably work in that position. There are a couple of companies that make seat belts for vintage vehicles that can probably provide a suitable unit but I can't seem to recall the names at present.

John, does one end of the belts attach to the top of the rear deck as the 70s did or do they attach to the tire/fender well? I thought the 1970 models were the last of the deck mounts. If you put modern belts on the car and you have the old deck mount straps, save the metal ends, if they are the same as on a 70, they are hard to find, or so I'm told. PJ

The belts are mounted on the rear deck. There are two inertial reels in the side wells but they would need replacing since they just look like two rusty steel wheels with nothing attached to them.

thanks for the info,

john

I believe the magnetic Kangol belts were used through the 1971 model year in the North American market, but stayed on through 1975 or 1976 in the UK market.

Yes, the hardware is indeed getting hard to find for the magnetic Kangols.

Kangols are tough to come by. Got info of seatbelts from Hagerty. The following may help:
Seatbeltsolutions.com and ssnake-oyl.com rebuild for a price $$$
Seatbeltpros.com sell aftermarket.
hope that helps
