MGB 71 MGB ignition lock core removal

So my ignition key somehow is jammed in my ignition. It turns but very tightly. Anyone have any tips for removing the lock core so I can get a new ignition core in? I've done all the usual things, lube, took off steering column cover, but the steering lock assembly has those weird bolts that were flattened on one end.

I found this and copy/pasted it below for your info.

"With the cowl removed, you have access to the ignition switch which is held in place by two bolts of the "torque to breaking" design. This leaves two headless bolts to be removed if you want to remove the entire switch, tumbler assembly and hold down. Use a cutoff wheel in a Dremel style tool to cut a cross slot in each headless bolt, allowing a screwdriver blade to be used to remove them. Disconnect the wiring at the plug in connector under the dash.

The bolts used to hold the switch assembly to the steering column are a standard size, 5/16"-18 UNF, and the factory bolts can be replaced with either a hex head machine bolt or a socket head cap screw with no problems when reassembling the part.

Installation is the reverse of removal. If removing the switch from the attachment mechanism, there is one small cross point screw which holds the plastic switch in place on the bottom of the left hand side of the attachment assembly. "



If your switch is toast,your best bet may be to find a used one off another MG somewhere as opposed to ordering one from Moss as those switches seem to be of poor quality although I ordered mine from "Octagon motors in Vancouver Canada and the replacement has been doing well for me.
 
Cool! I never thought it'd be so easy. I'll get to it tonight hopefully. The switch is still good, just the actual core and tumbler assembly is toast. Other than finding the reason the fuel pump doesn't get power from the ignition switch (if we bypass it it runs perfect) after this it's on to belts, tires, hoses and hydraulics. Then on the road I go!
 
Well, I got the assembly off, but the tumbler mechanism is toast, so for fun I started to drill it out. I think I may go to a dash mounted ignition and toss the column mounted switch. I could care less about the steering lock. I'll go for a racier setup with a fuel pump cutoff switch, too. Goal is Targa Newfoundland in 2012...
