TR6 69 TR6

Hello fellas, long time no speaky....I have a unusual one, I have a 69 TR6 CC 25xxx the comm and the body # match but the engine has zero numbers in the boss. It appears to be smooth with no stamp on it.The engine still has many of the original hoses on it, alt, dist, wires,even fuses etc and the whole car has been basicly untouched except for an ancient repaint. This car is very ruff but I need to know what the deal is with the engine...I checked Piggotts 456 book and he has no answers. I also have another 69 TR6 within the same month of manufacture as this one and that one has the correct engine numbers etc. The engine with no numbers looks to be the factory original and untouched. So do you guys have any clues as to why this engine is numberless? thx

Mystery. Maybe it was used in a crime and the serial # was filed off.

I think TRF used to sell some NOS blocks that were not stamped. Not sure if they have any more.

I've actually seen a couple of those blocks; not sure how or why they escaped being numbered, but they did!

I bought one of those blocks in 1998 and uncle Dave actually delivered it. Well almost. I had to meet him in Elizabethtown, PA. The story is that during one of his trips to England, Charles "found" a stockpile of TR-6 blocks. They were spares that Triumph had warehoused and forgot. Charles apparently bought all <span style="font-weight: bold">300</span> of them for a pittance. Since they were spares, they have no number.

Wow! one of only 300! that ought to up the value a couple of bucks.

I have one of those blocks in my '74. In this case it is thought that it was a replacement from TRF as the transmission is from '72.

I have a similar situation with my own 69. I'm 26710, so a little later than yours -- my guess is December 8, 1968. My body and frame numbers are consistent with one another, but no numbers at all on the block boss. I haven't torn the engine down yet to measure deck height to see if/how much it's been milled. I had been thinking it had a previous deck and mill on it that took the numbers off. However, the odometer shows less than 35k miles, and the body is pretty clean. It appears to have been taken down (interior removed including the dash pad) a LONG time ago and repainted from the original Royal Blue to Tahiti Blue -- maybe in 1976 to make it look new? Beyond that, no other major work is apparent without taking the motor apart (haven't gotten to that yet -- soon).
So the mystery grows...

I came across an early block years ago that looked as new but was infact a warren tee item replaced when new.(from a tr250)The dealer had packed it in cosmoline , and had it ready to return.This never happened,so I got it in the 90's .The flaw was interesting when I finally found it.The pan rails were not true and flat,the factory had taken a grinder and removed a blemish leaving a 1mm dip in the gasket surface!!!I took it to a machine shop and asked how much to deck the pan rails about 50 thou.He said "are you nuts? nobody ever decks rails"I said that if he had a better idea after he saw it,I was open to suggestions!!!

I can verify the TRF blocks have no numbers on them. I have on in my TR250.
There is also a possibility the block was decked. Enough material removed from the deck would cut off the numbers.

I was curious so I went to the garage and checked my 69 TR6 and it has numbers.
