TR6 69-TR6 horn problem

Although my brother did a nice job restoring the body/frame and lots of mechanical problems there were (and still are) some electrical issues to resolve. When I got the car, the horns were activated by the main headlight switch. The guys at the garage (Motorhead)fixed that as I now have directionals, headlights, brake lights,parking lights that work fine. Hazard lights do not due to a lack of a proper relay unit available at the time. However, they could not locate a horn wire in the steering column that is needed to complete the horn circuit. I was told that in order to replace this wire the steering column would need to be pulled. Is this true and are there any other options to pursue?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure (although working from memory is often dangerous for me) that the wire in question runs with the turn signal and column light switch wires in that "chase" clamped to the bottom of the column. Given that, it should be accessible without pulling the column. However, you might have to pull the steering wheel for access to the slip ring to which that wire attaches (again, IIRC).

As Andy said, it runs under the steering column to a connection there and that then goes thru the firewall. The column acts as a ground and there are 2 connections,straps,that are often over looked. One is thru the coupler and the other is where the shaft meets the rack.
