MGB '68 MGB Engine Removal Questions

Decided to strip out the '68 - hopefully someone will save the body.
I've got (almost) everything disconnected.
On the drive shaft - if I leave the short section on the rear of the trans,
do I have to do anything to keep the trans from leaking out the output shaft?
What's the best way to store the engine - front forward,or back.I may
need to get to things at a later date.

Also - what's the best way/place to attach lifting chains
for the engine hoist?

For lifting chains I've used the rocker cover bolts (remove the rocker cover first) -- at least on the a-series engines this was the factory method. I've also used an exhaust manifold stud for that side, and whatever seemed handy on the other side. I've mostly done a-series engines, but they're very similar to the b-series in the MGB.

Can't speak to the trans -- last one I pulled just leaked. As for storage, I used a cheap furniture dolly under the engine so it could roll around.

Ditto what Drew said.

As for the transmission question, what's your purpose in splitting the driveshaft? Why not just disconnect the yoke? As for leakage, if the seal's bad you may be able to minimize that by tilting the transmission a bit forward.

I drained the tranny before I pulled the unit. I was pretty sure it had not been done in 50000 miles. Since we were going to use new engine mounts, I just sawed through the old ones. Much easier than trying to get the rusty bolts out.

Just a quick response. Disconnect the battery, remove everything from the head, ie the intake, exhaust, heater valve, rocker ass, and head. Remove top tunnel cover, shifter, and bolts the attach the prop shaft, disconnect clutch slave bolts, Remove trans member. Lift front of car and attach lift directly to the top of the motor. Lifting angle needs to be steep.
May have missed a bit, but you will get there!
If not done already, pull the radiator, heater pipes, etc. watch the front support when removing the unit.
