'68 Dash Warning Lights

OK, so I am a little embarassed to admit this, but I don't know what all of the dash warnings lights on my '68 are supposed to do. Well, I suppose it's not really a '68, I am refurbing a dash from a '74-ish midget to put into my '68.

I know the center "square" unit is the brake check light.

There's two round lights on the right side of the instrument area. One red, one blue. I believe the blue one is for the ignition system. Is this correct? Also, what is the round red one for? I have no clue what this red one is for.

Thanks!

Red is alternator - it goes out when charging - and will stay on if ignition is on but engine not running.

Blue is high beams

The blue is your high-beam headlight indicator.
The red is your charging system light. If your alternator is either overcharging or undercharging, or if your battery is bad, the light will come on.
Your red brake check light should come on with your emergency brakes, or if the brake balance switch trips; i.e., if you lose either your front or back brakes. The earlier brake check lights would be built into a push-switch to test it. (Most of them have stopped working long ago.)

Ha! beat me to it, JP!

Tada!

Bill, check the new post I just started, it's a question for you (or others)

thanks

If you put this dash in a '68 then the brake light will only work when there is trouble in the brake system, not when the emergency brake handle is up.
Bill

Kevin, Don't feel embarassed about that one. I have a 78 and they have 3 bezels that are yellow, red, and blue. They added the yellow light for the oil. I had to write it down when I got the car until I got used to its langauage.

Thanks guys!

I ended up rebuilding these lights as I didn't see them available in Moss's catalog. The lenses were broken out. About 5 mins each with my dremel and some colored reflectors from ACE Hardware and they look almost as good as new.
