I am mew to this forum, I have found a 1967 white 3000 with 83K of mileage. It is owned by the original owner. It has not been driven in over ten years and has been garaged. Two questions; what is it work. The owner wants $15K, 2. How much would it cost to get it running poroperly after it hasn't been driven.

Dale - nice car but impossible to answer your questions without knowing a lot more about the car. Any rust? Any rust that would be detrimental to the safety of driving it?
Engine turns over? All fluids should be changed. Most likely brakes and related items all need rebuilding. Tires OK sort of? Price seems good but really depends on so much. Can you get some pictures?
A near perfect car can be worth $35,000 and more. One sold at an auction for over $60,000 (which I think a bit rediculous but...) You may also have to put $25,000 in your car to make it worth $35,000 which would leave you $5000 in the red.
How much work can you do yourself?

15 K sounds steep unless the car was very nice and someone decided to stop utilzing it because they didn't like driving around in a nice convertible. Seems to me you could get a pretty nice restoration candidate that runs for that amount. In my mind, if you are going to have do to a full restoration you might want to look a little lower. I bought my car, sans drive train for 500.00. It had more then the usual Healey Rust. My buddy spent 6.5 k on his BJ-7 non runner and when we compared restoration costs, we were actually pretty close. I had to cut out some really nasty rust and the rust he cut out was less rusty-- but we both had to cut out the same panels in the end.
Lastly, if the body is good, i.e. no major structural repair and you have good doors and only maybe need some dog legs and outer sills, it is probably a good deal.
Heck, just buy it and get started.

What is a Healey worth? Well, this is a subject of much discussion! However, my advice to you is to contact the local Austin Healey club and find someone knowledgeable about Healeys and determine its state or condition. If it is a gem with a little dust it is a bargain. If it sat in the rain and the entire car is rust then it is too much. One cannot make a determination based on the description given at this point. However, I can safely say that it is very expensive to "restore" one of these cars so you definitely don't want to pay too much for a restoration base. However, if the car only needs new tires and brake work...... Find someone that knows Healeys to give it a good look. Also consider paying a couple hundred to a professional to look her over, too.

Dale if indeed this is an original owner car...I think the $15,000 is fair...depending on if there is no rust...if there is rust...then not so sure...how about some more details...like paint finish...interior finish...I'm sure the motor will need lots of work...you might offer them...$10K instead...also if you can find in your area a Healey Club...maybe someone from there with some expertise would come out an give you an idea...last there are people that will inspect the car (for a price)...and do the same thing...an evaluation of worth...good luck...and keep us posted as to how it turns out.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
