found a 65 looks like its been a daily driver.
oil film on rear licence plate some surface
rust and chips. duct tape adhesive residue along
windshield to top seal. interior is in very good
shape. had a 63 and a MK V11.and various other
BMC cars. currently own a 62BT7 Healey.i ain't
new to this stuff. not even sure the guy wants
to sell. but he hasn't been driving it. the
neighbors say it runs....a little rough. if i
shoot him an offer assuming i have to go thru
the motor..do the paint and body work myself.
what would be reasonable?????

Need more info. Is it an OTS or FHC? Big difference as to whether it's worth jumping in.
Without knowing the status of the car with regard to it's body and frame condition and ability to run, it's almost impossible to guage a value. For instance, if it has serious cancer the car could be worth donor parts value or, at the least, will cost a mint to repair. If the rust is only superficial and it's just a matter of sorting out the body work and paint, that's good - especially if you're doing the work. As for the drive train, a 1st class complete engine rebuild and tranny overhaul could go (are you sitting down?) beyond $15k (don't ask me how I know this). A bit different than our Healeys, eh?
Good luck.........

More information is required certainly about rust/body condition. The XK block is not as expensive to recondition as indicated above. I have turned several reconditioning jobs for less than half of the stated price. The transmission is a wild card because it is too difficult to guess what parts will be required before disassembly. The big question is body condition and probably interior. To do this to restoration standards is very expensive.
