65 Sprite vent window removal

Is there any way to remove the door vent window frames without removing the door glass and everthing inside the door? I'm painting the car, and have removed the windshield (a breeze)compared to the vent window!

Mask, Mask, Mask. Decide if you are looking to build a concours car or a driver. Typically the crap inside the door is rusted and difficult to take apart. Window frames are SS and can polish up. If things go up and down well when lubed properly, I might consider masking and leaving well enough alone.

If a concours restoration is what you are after then by all means take it apart. But it is a total PITA to get it back together and readjusted once apart. It's all time, effort, and $.

If things look bad inside the door/ rusty in there then you probably don't have a choice. If it looks decent and you're only worrying about cosmetics, no one is going to see in there once the door panel is on.

IMO I'd rather get it done and drive it. Others on this list will offer different opinions I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure everything has to come out. The early ones are chrome, the later ones are stainless steel.

Another thing to consider is if there is any tears in the metal around the window opening. If so, then you might as well take the door apart and patch those up.

The car is in great shape. Only surface rust except for minor areas around the sills. Had it checked by a friend who is a body shop manager. He has done beautiful work on an MGA, 911 Porsche competition car, and many others. He says it'll take very little metal repair. Probably just mask the vents off as suggested. I've heard horror stories about putting the door back together!

Just have him double check for rips in the metal. I don't blame you for not wanting to take the door apart. BTDT.

How much are you dismantling everything else? If you do everything but that - it wil drive you crazy forever.

it's not that hard to dismantle the door - I can post some pics - my door is reassembled but it will also be the chance to replace the window rubbers and felt

Almost everything forward of the firewall has been removed as well as the dash. The car really doesn't need it. At this point, I would just like to get the car soda blasted, painted, and back together. If you've taken pictures, I would like to see them. Might change my mind about those vents.

OK - I probably should have said Picture not pictures. Anyway, here is the door reassembled.

A - is the bracket that holds the bottom of the front channel in place - this is the bottom of the vent window bracket - remove them.

B- is a "spacer bolt" that maintains the curve of the channel - remove it.

C - is the two bolts that hold the vent window down and

D - is the two bolts that hold it forward.

I think (help me here folks) you can remove the whole thing without removing anything else. At the very least you can get it an inch high to improve the paint seam
