You'd best get a title from a car here in the U.S.

If you get a Canadian title, in order to register it here in the U.S. you'll have to show a receipt from U.S. Customs that you've paid the duty on it.

Check with the DMV in your state, but that's the way it works here in Mini-Sota.

However, many states will issue a new title for a car this old if you tell 'em you bought it as a junker without a title, and restored it. Call your DMV and see what they say.

Also, besides the new engine and transmission, I strongly suggest that you consider upgrading to disc brakes on your "baby". The 850 had single leading shoe brakes....which were marginal even for the 850. With a 1275 in there, you're going to need A LOT more brakes!

MiniMania is running a special on a disc brake conversion until the 4th of July:
