TR4/4A 63 TR4 Inlet Manifold question

When I bought my car, it came in pieces, it came with three inlet manifolds. I had never seen it assembled. I have installed my carbs with the longer branch manifold, but they put the throttle linkage too close to the inner fender, also I couldn't install the air cleaner. I have two other manifolds, and I am not sure which is correct. If I were to use the one with the "boss" does anyone know the thread so I can install a fitting to allow a breathe tube to be attached?

Thanks

Alan

You need to either use the slimmer (H6S) carbs with the wider intake, or the wide (H6) carbs with the slimmer intake. My guess is that you've got the 'wrong' carbs for that year, but it's not a big deal. I'd take the intake to a place like OReily's and have them look through their box off odd fittings until they find the one that fits. That's what I did when I fitted the wide intake with skinny carbs to my TR3 (I know they are 'wrong' for the year). The advantage of that fitting is it's a great place to add a vacuum line for the cruise control (also wrong for the year) or to adjust the carbs. The air filter should fit with the slimmer intake.

Alan,

What's your engine number (and is it original to the car)? Based on the SPC entries, I think number 2 is probably the right one for your car. The one you have installed is from a TR4A.

I haven't seen that type of air cleaner on a TR4 or TR4A although the SPC does list an air cleaner and silencer assembly.

That air filter is from a GT6 I believe. Not a TR4. If you are going to use the SUs pictured then you need either one of the first intakes. Long intake is from 4a. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I am in the process of changing to one of the shorter ones. These are the problems you face when you buy a box of bits!!!:friendly_wink:
