Spitfire 63 spitfire question on ign light

I have a 63 spitfire and rewired the car do to the fact that the last owner taped 3 foot pieces of wire together for most of the car.

My question is that when the car is off the ign light is off in the speedo. But when the car is running the red ign light turns on and stays on and gets brighter as I rev the engine. From what I can tell from the wiring diagram in my manual this looks like the way it should work. Am I right or do I have it wired wrong. If I am wrong can you tell me what I may be doing wrong. If I remember I have a wire running from the light to the 3 post from the right on the control box.

The reason I ask is because in my gt6 the light turns on with the key turned to start but when the car starts the light turns off.

The spitfire has the original generator and control unit. I tested the generator and I am getting 14 volts off it when running.

Most likely the wiring, IMO. The warning light should have no ground, one of it's wires goes to the "white" ignition circuit (hot only when the key is on) and the other wire goes to the "yellow" generator output (armature) circuit (hot only when the generator is working).

Sounds to me like you have the light grounded somehow, instead of connected to the white circuit.

You guys are smart. I had it grounded and not going to the right place. Fixed it in a few seconds and now it works as it should. Thanks for the help.

Now I just need to get the gas and temp gauges working and find a passenger glove box rail and glove box and a new top for a mk 1, and my 16 year old son will be ready to go. He wants to use it for prom.

Cool Dad!

I got to take the Ford LTD back when they had 100 hp 6 cylinders.... (my Dad was cool despite that)
