'63 Midget Steering Rack

So, today I replaced the inner tie rods on my steering rack - that finished the rebuild except for installing the tie rods, their boots & paint...the rebuild was actually easy! Only time I had difficulties was getting the jamb nuts off the old inner tie rods...amazing what an air compressor will do!

I've tried everything I know to get those jamb nuts off on the Tunebug. I'm probably going to wind up cutting the old tie rods off and replacing them.
 
Similar problem Drew. I have three racks that I had decided to refresh all at the same time. On the first two the tie ros ends and jamb nuts came off fairly easily. On the third one (and of course the one I intended to use first) the second tie rod end wouldn't budge no matter how much heat, penetrating oil or force I used. Now I'm trying to figure out how to cut it off without buggering up the tie rod itself.
 
I'm planning on replacing the tie rods as well (I think).

Drew - In addition disassembling, cleaning, & inspecting everything & replacing the tie rods (#18), I also replaced the inner tie rods (#14). That was easier that the shop manual sounds....there's a little lock washer (unnumbered in the diagram) that has 3 tabs which must be bent flat...then, I took a large pair of slip pliers & unscrewed the inner tie rod....I put the old inner tie rod in a vice & used my 3/4" air impact wrench to remove the jamb nut.

All that's left is to install the new steering boots, fill 'er up & twist on the new tie rod ends.

Oh, I'm also replacing the upper & lower felt bushings (#'s 3 & 4) on my steering column along with the steering column to toe board seal (#5).
 
Tony is finding out why I ordered so many parts over the last few years.
