Post-War Other '63 Herald value?

I have a '63 Herald 1200 Convertible in need of restoration. 'Ran when parked', but it hasn't been started in a couple of years. The top has a small tear in it, and a seam came loose round the rear window. The wiper motor runs, but the wipers don't move; so I suspect it needs a mechanical part. There's a small area of rust blisters low in front of the left wheel. It's a fun car, but my '66 MGB is faster, nicer-looking, and more fun.

I just don't have the time, energy, and money necessary to restore the Triumph. I thought I might sell it this Summer. Does anyone know how much I should ask for it?

Wow, that actually looks to be a pretty nice, original car...at least if the one picture is any indication.

I hesitate to place any sort of value estimate without being able to see the car in person (and I'm NOT a professional appraiser regardless), but you could be looking anywhere from $2000-4000 or more, depending on how well it runs and how near to driveable it is, etc., etc.

I'd be happy to continue the conversation via private message, and I'd love more details about the car (not the least of which is where Birch Bay is :wink: )!

Andrew: Birch Bay is just below the Canadian border on the Strait of Georgia. The car is kind-of original. I think it originally may have been Pale Primrose. The upholstery is non-original. The dash needs refinishing or else new wood. It handles like a go-kart, and is almost as fast! Seriously, I've indicated 70 mph; but that was with my foot to the floor. It had been sitting a year last time I tried to start it, and I needed someone to spray some starter fluid into it while I cranked. Unfortunately I live alone, and I couldn't be inside and outside at the same time. I have a new neighbour though, who said he used to work on British cars at a shop in town for a number of years. I'll have to see if he's willing to help me get it started.

I don't want to circumvent any rules against classified ads. I'm just looking for advice as to how much I should ask when I get round to selling it, and I can add details here so everyone can see. My email address should be in my profile, or there's PM, if you want to contact me.

I told the neighbour, whom I've met only once, the figure I was thinking of (under your high figure) and he said I could get more. I told him if he found a buyer I'd split the overage with him. Haven't heard from him since! :laugh:
