TR2/3/3A 62 Project....TR3B

He's the one with the MG I posted in the Pub. I recognize the name from somewhere.
Must be liquidating.

that sure does look like a great deal! To bad he is on the other side of the USA! There is $1500 in new chrome alone.

Seems like a decent deal. Wish I could take advantage of it.

Have no knowledge of the seller, and no opinion on value - but just be aware that doesn't look like a late body for a 3B. It's early style with the speaker hole as well as bulkhead blanking plate.

On the inside picture the blanking plate is clear. Maybe like Tom says an early bulkhead was patched in. Again, not a reflection on the car or price, but I would think that earlier pieces have been used to put this together - I don't think that speaker hole should be there on a 3B body.

Hi JP,

I registered on that site. Pretty Interesting little place.

Anyways; If he replies to your request of selling parts; Please let me know.

This is really a "Super Buy". There`s more than $6.5K in the Chassis, Engine & Trans alone never mind all the other parts.

You folks here are being a bit "Picky" about whether its a TR3A or TR3B; Don`t you think?

That's why I was carefully not talking about price or value - this may indeed be a bargain. But I disagree about being picky - the front bulkhead is not from a 3B. What's the point of having a car forum if we can't go over some of the technical points?

I don't think it's being picky. If someone is making a major selling point out of it being a TR3B, then the buyer is expecting to get a genuine 3B not a conglomeration of grafted together body parts from several years.
Who's to prove in the end that it's nothing more than a TR4 motor and trans and a 3B commission plate on a bunch of salvage parts? (I'm Not saying that's what this is. I'm only making a point)
In the end does it take away from the value. I doubt it. Unless someone it going for a concourse restoration.
I've seen more than one TR3-3a-3b that had raised plinths for either the bonnet or the boot hinges, but not the other. Lots of these cars have been made from 2 or more donors. It's still a cool car in the end, and very few people will notice.
A rolling chassis with all the other bits for $6500? not bad.
I'd still be interested.

:iagree:
Looks to me like it's the entire front section from a fairly early body, though. Note that it also has the wood in the scuttle, which went away well before TS60k (TS39781LO didn't have it)

:iagree: To me, what makes a TR3B worth pursuing is originality, including the correct commission and body numbers and a correct engine number.

Hard to say there. I'd like to think it does, but it all depends on the potential buyer. I would think true collectors would still value "correctness"!

All true; I've seen more than a few myself. Some were done reasonably well, while others were best left behind while you ran as fast as possible away from them. Of course, such cars still exist in surprising numbers to this day; they're called "clip" cars. The major difference is that most of them have -- or should have -- salvage titles and possibly revealing CarFax reports!

The next owner might have an interesting time matching a 3B hood with raised hinge plinths to an early scuttle with flat hinge mounts.

Viv.
