62 MKII Sprite carpet pattern

I am putting new carpet in my 62 MKII. I'm too cheep or stubborn to buy a kit. I realize that in the end I will have spent more on D-I-Y than if I just bought the kit, but I just want to D-I-M (Myself). One issue that I'm facing is that I do not have old carpet for a pattern. The car was bare when I purchased it. I doing Ok with most of it, however, the areas just behind the seats, where the interior round of the wheel well intersects with the "back seat" (if you can call it that). Right where the back of the seat almost touches, there is a vertical rib that sticks up. Anybody with a MKII Sprite that understands what I'm talking about? If so, could you provide a picture of this area that may show the carpet detail. If anybody thinks they may be able to help, let me know and I can send a picture of the area without the carpet if that would help.
Thanks,
Magyar

I have several pieces of the carpet from my 62 Mk2. I pulled them out back in the 70's and can't tell where they are all from. I have identified the pieces that go on the wheel arch for both sides but I have a pair of long narrowish pieces that i can't figure where they belong. The front portion of the cockpit had rubber mats that dried up and become stiff and brittle. Good luck your project.

With the kit I purchased - which I should have traced before I installed, there were three pieces

1. went over the hump of the the rear wheel inners
2. went over and down the side of the rail next to the inners.
3. was a quarter round piece of carpet, about 3 inches along each side I cut it down a little, folded and glued it on each side of that rib with the fold facing forward.

does this make sense?

I do have the sheet of paper that came with it, I can scan it if you like - not to scale - but will give you an idea

Magyar,

I have a drawing I made for another Mk-II owner when he was doing his. I can send a copy to you if you want.

Yes the 'vertical rib' gets covered with a small piece of carpet. It's edges go under the main side carpet piece which will need a slit for the vertical piece.

I have a all original Mk-II with only 1747 miles on it.

A drawing or picture would be great, just to get a general idea of how to cover that forward facing rib.

Wow, an all original MKII. That would be great to see. How were you able to keep the miles so low. Don't say the obvious, "by not driving it", how could you not drive it over the years?

Thanks,
Magyar

Magyar.

I kept it simple when I did the Pep Boys Auto Carpet Job on Bugsy and simply semi gloss black painted the wheel arches back there. Looks good and the drama of cutting carpet was simply too much.

As a tip when fitting around the gearbox. I simply made two probably 45 degree angle cuts in the carpet and overlaid the carpet pieces on top of one another. One cut through both pieces with a sharp utility knife and I got a great seam. Glued the carpet down and ruffled the carpet and seam 10 years later is still unseen.
