What a purty little car!
The carb set-up looks a little over-the-top... not quite stock?

Great looking car. I've always had a passion for the older metal bumper Spitfires and yours is one of the nicer ones. Enjoy it.

I get a kick out of the fact that Dad's go kart is only slightly bigger than the kid's go kart

Before I got the car the PO bought another car and put that set up on his GT6. I have the stock single strohmburgh. Found out the engine is a MK4 1300.

You'll be better off with the Stromberg. that Webber setup would be killer on the street. On or off! Yeow! Looks like a great car. Can't wait to see it in person.

Curious about a few things:

1. What's the commission number on this car? (Not to nitpick, but it really can't be a '62; yes, some of the first Spitfire 4s were made late in calendar year 1962, but they were intended to be 1963 models. And the Spitfire wasn't even introduced to the press in the US until January 1963!)
2. What's the engine number?
3. Have you given any thought to at least upgrading a bit from what appear to be the original 3.5" steel wheels? Those don't allow you much rubber to control what I'd assume to be at least 85-90 hp or more (quite the boost from the original engine's 63 hp) from a 1300 with dual Webers!

Nice car, though, and it appears to be pretty much stock otherwise, down to original seats, etc.

Not nit picking, educating! I will get the commission number and post. I am very anxious to learn all I can on this car.
I think I will get the commission number from the parts car also.

Please do!

I see the rather massive speakers in the one photo. If you're not "married" to that concept, you might want to grab that upholstery panel from the parts car if it's any good and if it's the same color. Originally, they had two slotted fasteners that turn with a coin (or similar), releasing the panel and revealing the storage area for your top. It's a nice feature to have, but I don't know how the speakers would sound with a folded top stuffed back there!

They sound awful, like your listening to your music from the bottom of a mud puddle.

don't ask me how I know.

I'm jealous a Mk1?...Who cares if its in that condition the owner has a bench mark :winner1:.,Not many like THAT.The PO is the one thats outstanding.
Ken&Whitelightning(alias myspitfire)

OK so here are the commission numbers: FC9071L and FC24517. The interior in the other car was already redone. I use Masonite and Naugahyde. He is pulling that and sending it also.

Looks like my 62 is a 63. I found the parts car in the registry:

1964 Mk1 FC 24517 L Red Cour d' Alene, ID, USA Russ Boyett

Mine will fall between these two after I register:

1963 Mk1 FC 9063 L Red Sterling Hts, MI, USA Unknown
1963 Mk1 FC 9120 L Blue Fremont, NE, USA Joe Guinan

Quite a find!!! Some of those 1296 engines came with SU carbs. If you can find a four port intake manifold, you'll have a stonger engine, I believe. Personal opinion- sports cars should have multiple carbs. I wonder, if there are multiple Webers, maybe headers, and a hotter cam were added since 1963?
Again, good looking car. T.T.

You go, Andy! Nice car! Was it originally tan? I just picked up and early '63 car myself, but it was cheap! Got any pix of putting up the top?

The original color was a very light yellow. Still debating on going back to it. I know one of the first things I do is to look into the arrangement of the lettering on the hood. Seems I'm missing a badge and the letters are too high.

I happen to think there are too many Signal Red early Spitfires and not nearly enough Jonquil Yellow early Spitfires, so you have MY vote! And yes, I'd also meant to mention the whole badging arrangement on the front. Can you see evidence of repair and/or the old holes for the letters and badge on the underside?

From the French Spitfire club, here's a picture that addresses BOTH of the above issues!

Re: 63MK1

Guess what just became my new back drop at work. I will have to wait until the car gets here. She is still residing in Washington. Hopefully 3 weeks at the most.
