'62 mg midget question

Hi Folks,

A friend of mine has an "Orig" stock '62 MG MIDGET. He's detailing the engine bay & would like to know what color was applied to the stock factory heat shield behind the carbs?

I think it was "Engine color" but not 100% certain.

Thanx in advance,

Russ

PS: Hi Fred

Come on Folks,

Someone out there must know the answer to my question listed above!!!

Thanx, Russ

Well, yes, Russ. I'm quite sure they were always engine color.

Kurt.

Russ,
Mine were plain old zinc plated, but ended up being Spridget rust brown.

The heat shield on my '69 was the same color as the engine block. Of course, these days, my engine looks like Neopolitan ice cream with the lower block still painted, the head unpainted after it was redone, and a black valve cover. When I eventually do a rebuild (hopefully still a few years off), I will repaint.

Terry Horler's book "Original Sprite and Midget" has the following:

P.28 - Shows the engine bay of a Sprite Mk 1 - Heat shield is green.
P. 35 - Shows a Sprite 948 engine on an engine carrier - Heat shield is green.
P. 59 - Shows an engine bay of a Sprite Mk II - Heat shield is green.
P. 81 - Shows an engine bay of a Sprite Mk III - Heat shield is green.

Hope that helps,

Mike Pennell

Green, no question. Engines were typically painted once assembled and not uncommon to find the intake/exhaust manifold painted green or at least have overspray.

Thanx to All for the info.

Happy, Healthy 2016.

Russ

I think your question has been answered, nice to hear about a stock 62 Midget, you don't see too many of the early box Spridgets, especially in good, original condition.
