61 Midget VIN Number Tag

I was looking at a 61 Midget today and couldn't find the VIN number tag. It is a US model LHD. Where is the tag? Thanks!!

On the rail below the air cleaners... I think.

If its not on the frame rail below the carbs, it is stamped into the right front shock mounting plate just behind the shock.

I couldn't find anything by the air cleaners. If it is by the shock, is it visible from under the hood? Thanks!

Look down BELOW the air cleaners, ie vertically from the midpoint between them, see pic...

Yep - mine has one there - sort of on the inner fender, directly under (and hidden by) the air cleaners. I found it using the Moss catalog as a guide.

The VIN number on the shock mount is not visible from above. You will have to remove the right front tire and most likely use a wire brush to clean off years of gunk and the paint in order to see the number.
