'60 Sprite clutch/brake reservoir

Hi all,

I'm helping a friend restore a 1960 Sprite. We're wondering if it would be possible to swap out the single reservoir feeding the clutch and brake system for a dual setup found on later models. I tried searching the forums, but couldn't come up with anything pertaining to this type of modification.

Thanks.

Hi Sam1 - Just a suggestion before I bend your ear with my opinion - There's a dedicated Spridget forum a bit lower on the list which is swamped to drowning with Sprite/Midget finatics -

I'm sure that this can be accomplished if originality is not an issue - Note that on the sprite forum there are many members who race these little cars and I'm sure they convert the archaic stock systems to stuff that is pretty much state-of-the-art - after all, their butts depend on being able to stop in a pinch.

I don't know if later model Sprite stuff will work, but I've seen many conversion which use modern components - some off of Nissans and Toyotas which are not only a lot more available but probably cheaper.

So log on to the Spridget forum and post this question there and you'll have more answers than you can shake a stick at.

Welcome to BCF!

I have the later dual set up on my Bugeye.
I opted for the 1967 set up because it doesn't have that funky pressure failure switch and the lines are the same size.
You do have to move the wiper motor (or install a later 2 speed wiper on the fender well) and make the pedal box hole wider and shorter. Wider isn't too hard and I just fashined a plate to cover the taller original pedal box hole.
Any pedal box from 67 on will work.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the mis-post. I didn't even see the Spridget forum until this morning.

I'll take everyone's ideas into consideration, though, and I'll let you know what I decide.
