60 Bugeye Disc Brake Conversion

Very interesting read.

I am content with the 1275 brakes on my stage one 1275 in a BE.

But a brake servo hmmmm, interesting

Patrick

Servo makes the pedal easier to push, it does not improve the braking.

Thanks, I had just read that on the other thread.

Interesting, rear disc, you have caught my attention. I've been told that with rear disc, you lose the ebrake. I didn't want to do that trade off. Somewhere in the future I can see mods on the rear axle towards better handling and would consider anything in reason. I'm curious about what has led you to rear disc, and how you are doing it. Thanks.....

You guys spend way toooooo much time reading what others with limited abilities are doing. Get out to the bone yards and look around. There are tons of rear disk setups that would not take a brain surgeon to figure out a simple conversion. There aree plenty of sites from people doing this to almost every vintage ride out there. I am converting because of the simplicity and low maintaince. Emergency brakes are setup just like the donor vehicle uses. WOW you MIGHT have to alter a stock cable or heaven forbid, get one custom made. Nothing is going to be a direct bolt up, but more brave people that follow thru with something they want, more info will seep back to the rest of you that are too afraid of trying something less commonly achieved. I would love to spend hours setting up a website with all the info to doing upgrades, etc, but I find it a lot more productive to spend time actually getting the work done.

Well there's only one thing wrong with that statement, you assume everyone has the skills and all the equipment it takes to fab up a rear disc set up, while I'm one of those folks, I don't assume everyone on this board is. Persoanlly I wouldn't bother with rear disc on the street car, but I used them on the race cars for the above mentioned reason, but just how often am I going to be messing with my rear brakes on my street car, not very often. I did mods to these little cars well beyond most people's imagination, but it was for the race track, my approach to the street is much different. I know what it's like to drive a Spridget 125 mph on the track with a 145 hp 1275, but don't really care to look for the same performance from my street car, it's for tooling up a mountian road with my honey.

I have to say I get somewhat amused when I talked to people who want our coil over front suspension for a street car or folks putting a IRS suspensions under a MGB, it seems a bit much for a street car, for that kind of work and money, just build a race car and be done with it, now theres a test of performance and skill.

And that's a big 10-4 good buddy.

I found a pedal box from a 69 sprite and it looks like the mod to the body is no big deal. Cut a notch on each side of the opening and drill some new holes to mount the wiper motor etc. This I think is use of the modified KISS principle, Keep It Sorta Simple.

The KISS principle I always tell myself is the "Keep It Simple, Stupid!" one. And I usually repeat it frequently....lol
