6-cylinder alloy valve cover

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

All I can tell you is that this one was on my engine when I bought the car almost 20 years ago. So I kept it. It is solid as a rock, seals like a submarine, has no flex and will get shiny if you want it that way. Can't see any reason to use a tin one ever again.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

I personally do not consider it an "upgrade". It is just bling. I happen to like the looks of the fluted one.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

I have been looking for an old add for mine. Probably marketed by Hollywood Sport Cars. This picture is of the 4 cylinder version.mystery valve cover.jpg

Or just chrome the original one! Cheers!

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

I have an early (see thumbnail) AL cover on my 100 which has 9 fins versus 10 in Ray's design. I have heard that they were sold by JC Whitney back in the day. In any case I would recommend getting one of Ray's as it will definitely add bling if not speed.

Ray's Alloy Finned Valve Cover is my choice - see before and after pics. But I like vette's too! GONZO

I have no idea who made mine but I have two of them - one I bought from Gary Hemphill 20 years ago, the other on ebay.

This is an aftermarket accessory one offered a long time ago but I don't know who made it either. I have the same one on my Healey. You are missing the breather style oil filter cap.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

I don't know the origin of the valve cover Red57 pictures but the early finned covers such as the one on my car were flat on top whereas Ray's covers have a rocker to them.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Patrick, I would really like to see a picture of a correct filler cap - the one I have is what came with it when I bought it used. My cap is not a vent/breather but seals with a cork gasket.

Michael, That's interesting because mine has a distinct crown from front to rear which I really like. Isn't that the point of bling, something you like.

To the original questions, I don't think it's really an 'improvement" but I do like them.

Dave

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Mine's the same as vette's; bought it through Moss Motors around 1984. Since this picture was taken, I replaced the mounting hdwr w/stainless steel pieces.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Mine's off a Vanden Plas 3 litre and the same as the works cars used at the time.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

I am considering upgrading, anyone have opinions etc?

Any one suggested above that fits your fancy combined with a silicone sealing gasket can eliminate valve cover oil leaks for life.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

The aluminum valve cover solved my problems, happened with 2 steel covers- hole- distortion bad planarity-oil arrived at my windshield and silicone sealing gasket reduced the problems but don't solve it completely- the choice ca be at personal taste or economical - ribbed cover have more dissipation power
My choice (I don't remember if from AH Spare or A Head 4) was for simplicity economy and availability

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

In Southern Cal in the late 70's, an old guy named Walt had the patterns so a few more could be made for Association members. I got one then. They could well have been made by Moon once.
