6-blade fan on 948

In the parts I got with the MG was a spare plastic 6-bladed cooling fan. Will this bolt up to the 948 in the Tunebug? I'll be starting a major cooling system project in a few weeks, and was wondering if this fan could replace the original metal 4-blade fan.

Drew, it will fit the 948, but you have to use the spacer for the 6 blade fan for it to clear the pulley. I don't have one handy, but it's about 1/4" thick.

I assume that the 1275 has that spacer on it? I won't be using the 1275 for some time, so I can cannibalize it for now if it's the correct part.

uummmm... I don't remember a spacer. Is this on all plastic fans, or just the ones with a vertical flow radiator. Or... maybe my memory is not what it used to be.

Spacer should move the fan closer to the radiator so it will pull more air through rather than just around.

I have no idea as to what is a correct distance from the radiator for the fan to have the best air flow.

I'll have to look at the 1275 -- there is still a fan on that motor, so maybe there will still be a spacer handy.

I installed a six-blade fan on my 948 and did not need a spacer.

Now that I have swapped out the 948 for a 1275, the six-blade fan would hit the timing cover cannister without the spacer. I found the spacer at Minimania.

Maybe it depends on if you have the smog pulley.

Yes Trevor
I am pretty sure that the pully with two grooves (for the smog pump) is thicker in front and doesn't need the spacer but if you use the single groove pully then you need the spacer.
