59 Bugeye Upstate NY

This is the identical car that was my first Bugeye, right down to the red tonneau (which I still have). Too bad I'm on the other coast. You seldom see a Nevada Beige car, but I've had 3 that were that originally, including the one I'm working on now.

Howdy Folks,

I was just driving thru & I must say; "VERY NICE FROGEYE"!!!!

Regards, Russ

PS: Hey Banjo; He`s right in your backyard. Perhaps he would consider a partial trade for your TR2??

I am about 5 hours from there looked good.
I am giving this one some thought.
Which is more valuable an original bug eye or a 1275ed bugeyed?

I am original freak and to me the original is. But because they are so close others like like the swapped 1275 instead of the 998. Not looking to steal this thread but interested in opinions?

there really is no difference in value between either. One of the great things about spridgets (to my mind anyway) is that there is very little premium for an original car except in the case of a pristine survivor and even there it's not much.

1275 just makes it more driveable and fun.

For average quality cars, there's no price difference I've seen between an original motor and the 1275. If you're going to drive the car, you'll want the 1275. I prefer a car to original spec, but did change my Bugeye to disc brakes and a 1275 to make it usable here in the mountains.

The only exception to this would be a pristine original car or a perfectly restored one. These are very rare, and I would expect them to be more valuable with the original 948 installed.

The other nice thing is that swapping in a 1275 and disc brakes can be reversed if you want to. I still have all the drum brake pieces and the original 948 stored away for the next owner if they wanted to go back to original spec.

It depends on what you mean by "value".
At a recent auction, don't remember RM or Barret's, the heavily modified Bugeye went for more than the (more) stock Bugeye's.
This surprised me, but that's one definition of "value".
To most of us here I would guess the car that's more original but yet more drivable is more valuable - thus the decision would come down on the side of the car with the 1275 and front discs.

That seems like a good deal. Surprised it isn't more frankly.
Needs a glass house for display purposes.
Cool Sprite.
