I've seen other posts regarding this problem. What I found involved the inner surface of the retainer ring that holds shifter lever in place. When attempting to move lever into reverse the lever was touching the inner surface of the retainer ring disallowing the lever to reach the full bottom position . I removed the ring and with a barrel grinder I removed enough material to allow for a small space between the two surfaces. Now able to back up with no issues.
