Nice "1 owner" "never restored" "22K mile" '58 BugEye on eBay... (not mine)

58 BugEye

Not sure I believe all of the claims, but it sure does look nice!
Not sure what the reserve is, but I'd guess it will be pretty high.

BTW: I used to live in Ventura, CA.
Nice city located halfway between Los Angeles & Santa Barbara.
IF I still lived there I'd be going over and taking a closer look at this one...

There is one picture of the wheel well (via a link) that appears to have been untouched during the repaint.
This and the views of the underside and the engine compartment makes one think that it was probably pretty nice looking even before the repaint.
I'd guess that it was just an exterior repaint, but I haven't seen the car in person...

Nah, not bidding. The temp part of the dual gauge is broke.

Hi Folks,

I had purchased a `72 Triumph TR6 from Bill @ California Classix about 3yrs ago or so.

What I can say about Bill is that he`s a pretty honest guy & My TR6 I bought was exactly as described in his listing on ebay.

One thing I have noticed is that his "Feedback" rating has dropped. Why, I have no idea??

So; I felt like posting this if there was someone out there who has an interest in the Bugeye.

Best Wishes,

Russ

 Good call - lucky you picked that up - it might have been a disaster - So I won't bid either :jester:

What puzzled me in that listing is that extra instrument between the speedo and tach where the turn-signal indicator light should be????

Clock

I like the red AH on the hub caps.

Man that one has been taken care of.

Yea and the door checks straps and painted over lift dot well the just ruined it for me! :smirk:
It is an great car things that should show wear do . nice well cared for car love the time capsule interior.

Just think, that's 50 years of love on that car.

:hammer: SOLD for $10100.00! :hammer:

Not a bad deal for such a well preserved example! (IMHO)

I was surprised by how low the sale price was!
Here was a reasonably unmolested (except for the dash) original (not a great respray) BE, and a one owner. From CA, with no evidence of rust, mostly like Coker originally designed it (except the headlights, you say). The interior, when was the last time you saw so many bolts and exposed sheet metal? Does the price of this vehicle say the market would rather have an update BE, with a 1275, ribcase, and carpets? And a lot of new parts, like brakes and rebuilt engine? Last year a red BE which was rebuilt by group of mainly girls from CA went for over 20K.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Scott

The proceeds from the girl's school BE that sold at Barrett-Jackson last year for $20K+ went to charity (or to the girl's school, or something like that), so the price was probably inflated accordingly.

A 1960 BE that sold this year at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale for $20900 was a white/red "professional restoration" with a 948cc. Claimed to be "one of the nicest in the country"... (whatever that means...)

Of course, Barret-Jackson prices don't often reflect true market value...
Frequently they are on the high side, but there is the occasional bargain to be had. (especially if the car doesn't match the interests of that day's audience of bidders.)

I'd say $20K is on the high side, it would have to be pretty much spotless & original. But $10K for this 1 owner CA Bugeye was probably a pretty good buy.

Manheim Gold Book prices for a '58-'61 Bugeye are as follows:
FAIR $5000
GOOD $10000
EXCELLENT $18000
SHOW $24000

Pretty wide range of prices there...

"Cheers!"

The Barrett Jackson Bugeye sold for about twice what I thought it should be worth.

Just might go to prove a few of these....

"Beauty (& value) is in the eye of the beholder."

"A fool & his money are soon parted."

"An item is only WORTH what someone will pay for it."

"A successful auction needs at least 2 interested bidders."

"When the top goes down, the price goes up."

"Bid what you think it is worth, then NEVER rethink your decision."

"You can't take it with you. So spend it while you are here, on the people & things that you love."
