Are the shims you might need to raise the brackets for the DZUS fasteners on the bonnet painted body color?
 
I believe they were originally left 'natural', kind of a pale red/orange color. But I don't have my Piggott handy to check.
 
I don't think they were ever leather, at least not on TR3. Even then, leather was more expensive, so only used where it was needed.
