MGA 56 - early mga 1500drum brake car

i have a 56, early mga 1500, drum brake car.

the front left wheel is binding. i need to pull the drum to look at the brakes, or at the least adjust the brake so it is looser.

its not really in the manual, and i can't find any info on mgaguru. can anyone tell me how to do both of these steps?

Two countersunk screws hold the drum to the hub.

Front drums should have a hole with a rubber plug in it (plugs have been known to be missing), allowing access to two adjuster screws on the front brakes, one adjuster on the rears.

Before you do the drum adjustment/removal; unless the flex hose has recently been replaced (with the car SAFELY jacked and braced at the front), pump the pedal a few times and see if the "binding" wheel is dragging. Release the pressure on the wheel cylinder(s) by undoing the bleed nipple a bit. If you get a spurt of fluid under some pressure, snug it down and see if the wheel then comes "unbound". If that happens, the flex line is your culprit. If not, try the adjusters.
 
thank you. i will do that. the two countersunk screws are on a tr3. the mga has 6 nuts attached to studs.

the adjusting screws - are they more or less at the brake cylinders? makes sense but i haven't ever had these hubs off. i should be able to see them with a flashlight?
 
You must have wire wheels , Doc's advice ( removing the drum) pertained to a disc wheel car. The adjustment procedure is the same: A large flat bladed screwdriver is needed to turn the elliptical adjusters counter clockwise to loosen. A flashlight will help and they will come into view directly across from the hole. Yes they are at the business end of the wheel cylinders.
 
I have a 54 TF in the air at the moment , reviving it from a long term slumber. Same brakes . Work the brakes a bit to make sure the wheel cylinders release properly.
