5 " wide wheels on Bugeyes

I see alot of 5" wide wheels for sale on ebay for Bugeyes. I was wondering about the fit, With the 5" wheel do the tires hang out of body. Do people do the change for looks, ease of buying decent handleing tires?

also has anyone tried putting a 15"x 5 1/2" wire MG wheel on a bugeye. Do they look and fit OK?

Re: 5 " wide wheels on Bugeyes

They should fit fine, depending on the offset. I have 13 X 5 (13J) on my square arch and they fit fine.

Hard to say about the 15s.
I'd think that's about at the limit of wheel diameter.
With 15s I'm running a 185x55 tire and it fills the wheel wells. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the low, fat performance tires. My car is lowered and uses spin on minilites.

Re: 5 " wide wheels on Bugeyes

Gundy thanks for photos they give me a good perspective,

there is a set of advertized 15" x 5 1/2" wire wheels for sale that are advetized will fit a sprite or midget. I was wondering how they would fit under the BE I am building for my wife. biggest problem I guess is keeping it on the ground with out using low profile tires.

I guess these wheels are off a MGB? if so will the splines be the same for a 1/4 spring car

Re: 5 " wide wheels on Bugeyes

If the offset is correct you can run 5.5" or even 6" wide wheels on a Bugeye, we do it all the time.

I don't know jack about MGB wires but the Midget wires were
offered in course and fine splines. The course splines were on early cars.
