TR2/3/3A 5-way valve, brake hydraulics

Sorting through the brake hydraulics. My 5-way valve is fitted with the restrictor including the spring loaded piston (presumably to prevent fluid from flowing back towards the MC. Can I remove the piston and spring or is it essential to keep this feature? If essential to keep the guts of this restrictor, can someone show a photo or sketch of how to reassemble this restrictor valve? I must have reassembled it incorrectly, as no fluid would flow through the valve. I removed it and cleaned it out (for a second time). Ready to reassemble.

Thanks much

Pat

It is supposed to block the flow, until the pressure drop across the valve reaches around 4 psi or so. I've always disabled mine, as I don't like having the brakes drag. However, without it, you may notice a low brake pedal after driving hard or for a long time without using the brakes. It's disconcerting if you aren't expecting it, but doesn't seem dangerous otherwise. I've never had the pedal be so low that I couldn't lock the brakes; and if it was, a quick pump would bring it up.

Here's a photo that might help with assembly sequence

I also removed mine many years ago as there was drag and a lot of brake dust. You quickly adapt to the double-pump (sometimes after a series of twisty turns as well as long drives).

I agree with above. I also removed the piston.

Dan, Randall, and Geo. Thanks very much for the responses. I pulled the piston and spring and bled each brake. Worked great. Thanks
