5 Speed Tranny .....

Considering the 5 speed conversion. Other than ebay -- any other sources for the tranny ? They all seem pretty expensive ($350 - $450) in addition to the rivergate setup ( ~ $700) = $1100 or more than I wanted to spend.

Any help would be appreciated.

Search around here for information about the other ways people have found 5 speed tranny's. I'm going to do this conversion eventually (next season most likely) so I just kept my ear to the ground looking for a good deal. Almost right away I found somebody selling a rebuilt tranny from a B210 for under 100. Went out there, didn't know if it was 5 speed or not but felt it was a good enough deal. After getting it home I found out it was an early 5 speed.

Moral to the story, if you are patient enough (and agressive when a listing does come up), you'll find one quite cheap. As a bonus, it might come "straight rebuilt" as mine did.

Don't get a rear seal kit if you go the Rivergate route, I'm rebuilding a engine for a customer right now because the rear seal kit was pouring oil.

Rivergate includes the oil seal. I do not see how it could cause a leak, though I could see why it would do little to stop a leak caused by too much craank cse pressure or badly worn scroll.

try www.car-part.com It is a wrecker super site. They seemed to have lots in the $250 range. (I think I searched right) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

Holy smokes! After a week of calls and visits to local yards I just found one in an '81 210 wagon with 95k miles showing. I got them "down" (it's all relevant) to $250 and was happy to pay it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

'Course that was after seeing them on eBay for $300-400 plus shipping and crating... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Good find I think. Make sure you rebuild it before useing. Or at least have it gone over well.
