5 speed Supplier feedback

I'm converting over to a 5 speed transmission in my 62 BJ7. The best I can figure I have 3 choices on transmissions and suppliers.
1. Smitty 5 speed conversion (from what I understand Smitty has retired and Transmission Conversion of Harrisburg, N.C. has taken over) using Supra 5 speed.
2. Conversion Components of New Zealand using Supra 5 speed.
3. Cape International using BMW 5 speed Getrag.

I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has used the suppliers or kits they offer and how the fitment is using the stock center shift cover?

Can't speak from first-hand experience, but I know of several people who are delighted with the Smitty conversion.

Also recommend that you keep that original 'box around for when/if you eventually sell the car. Lots of people like to go back to original, or at least know that they could! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Thanks Reid

I have full intention on keeping the existing tranny around for the day when it could be needed again. I'm just trying to increase reliability and thus fun factor. IMHO I want to be able to drive this brute around and not have to worry about fixing it!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif Money Pit! you gotta be kidden. However,I will back up Reid's position as I also know healey owners that are quite pleased with the Smitty 5 speed conversion.---- Plus why go waaay over across the ponds when you can get all you need right here on this side.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your right oh wise one! Smitty's it will be. I've talked with the new owner who has taken over from Smitty and was very pleased. I've already sourced the Supra transmission and purchased locally so I'm almost there! Let the real fun begin /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif
