I believe 79 to 82 are the years that pop into my head. Has to be from a 210 and not all of them had it. Some were fitted with 4 speed's and, of course, automatic's.
A B210 will bolt to the adapter plate but is a larger gearbox with several other differences. It can be fit, but require more modification to fit the tunnel, including cutting the crossmember and other mods to the gearbox itself. The '79 is a "dogleg" pattern. It's actually a more rugged gearbox, but installation is essentially the same. The dogleg has the upper 4 gears in the H pattern instead of the lower 4 and why it's referred to as the Rallye gearbox. Faster shifts in the upper gears.
Success! I located one just outside the sunny South for $400 and they are checking it out to make sure it's good. Shipping is $150 so I'm out of my price range again! I could swing the $400 with only minor damage to my face and rear end, but $550 might put me on the wrong side of the dirt. My wife does not share my passion for cars that are up on jack stands. What to do, what to do...

Well, I think the price is right, but the shipping sounds a little steep. I know I can ship one across country for no more than $80. If it's in your region, shipping should be close to half that unless they are paying one of the shipping outlets a premium to pack it up. Even the guy I know that charges the most doesn't charge that much even with an extra charge for crating. Who are you getting it from.... private party or junk yard?
Seriously, when I decided I wanted a 5-speed, I called every salvage yard within 200 miles. Without exception, the only response I got was " Are you kidding?" So, I started watching ebay. I eventually bought one for $425 + shipping but saw them as high as $1610. As Gerard said though, they seem to typically go in the $400-maybe 600 range. As stuff gets rare as well as desirable, the price does tend to go up.
Gerard, I bought an sccr ribcase and had it shipped 500+ miles for $26 and the individual I'm dealing with on the 210 box has not called me back...yet. Hopefully I'll hear back this week and make a decision. I'd buy it for $430 to my door...
Thanks, Rut
