What do you do? Will a Bill of Sale get you anywhere now a days? Or are they just parts?

Here in Indiana you can go to the courthouse and aoply for a title. You must get a police check, but there is no charge. That's how i was able to title my TR3B

None of those look like they are worth trying to restore.
On the other hand I have seen what you can do with a lump of rust.
You do have talent and patience!
 
I had only a bill of sale for my TR3. CA DMV didn't even want to see the bill of sale, they just ran a check for the VIN number being reported stolen and had me sign a "Statement of Facts" about where and how I got the car.

As long as the car is not in their database, and older than about 1970 (or maybe its 68), I don't think you'll have a problem. For the 71 Stag I brought in from OK, though, they wanted the CHP to inspect the VIN plates and there was some hassle when they discovered that one plate was missing and the other was obviously tampered with. But all they did was assign it a new VIN number and make out the paperwork (including title) with the new number. They didn't even charge extra for the new tag riveted to the B post.

In NY, they didn't even have car titles until 1972, so no pre-'72 cars in NY have a title. Transfer is by signing over the registration which is still in affect for pre '72 cars. If the registration isn't available, as with an out of state purchase or it got lost, bill of sale and VIN tracing (or photo of the VIN, as I did) will get you on the road...with a registration certificate, but still no title. :smile:
