5.8 magnitude earthquake in VA

I was on a conference call when it started here in the Philly area. House started swaying and it lasted about 30 seconds. We went back to our discussions and about a minute later my colleague in Southern Ontario (400 miles away) said that it had reached him.

They are saying California is so broke that even the earthquakes are moving away.

We're on a Jello base here, only hurricanes to deal with... and we get lots of warning with those. :jester:

Friend in Philly said their offices were evacuated. Fifth floor and stuff was movin' pretty good... yikes.

got this from a co-worker today ...

caution graphic earthquake pics ahead:

Here we go again . . .

Another quake last night at about 1am. 4.5 on the Richter, strong enough to rattle pictures on the wall, woke my wife and I up immediately. No apparent damage.

If these quakes were just a little bit stronger, not good.

Okay, now to brace for the hurricane this weekend! :cryin:

We joke about earthquakes here, all the time knowing how serious they can be. Some defense mechanism perhaps. They can be quite disconcerting. You are welcome to take them, but please keep the hurricanes and tornadoes to yourselves. No hope of Washington D.C. and Wall street falling into the Atlantic?

My Philly Phrend said it felt like a 2.5~3.0 there. She has lived in California, experienced 'quakes, came "back east" and now gets to contend with 'quakes AND hurricanes. *sheesh*

Don't fergit SNOW Doc. I heard the cracks coming from out west. OK, they get better earthquakes, but can any of you imagine LA with a 3 foot snowfall??? It would be great fun to watch and listen

My office was rocking and rolling. I am only about 30 or 40 miles from the epicenter. The new moms in our maternity units at the hospitals were kind of freaked out. No damage here but about 60 buildings damaged out in Mineral, Virginia I hear.

By the way, the hurricane is coming, too.
