My sister works in DC. They evacuated their building as did Congress and Pentagon.

An earthquake huh? Yawn... :cooler:

Burst a water pipe in the Pentagon! Oh, the humanity!

Felt here to... pretty strong. I'm about 150 miles from DC.
The window shades were banging against the windows... very strange indeed.

I felt it. Very obvious. House shook and trees moving with no wind.
We had one like this about 25 years ago.

No damage in our NY City/metro area but the roads out of Manhattan will be a mess due to bridge examinations (they're required to do structural exams after things like this). Newark Airport and JFK Airport shut down to look for runway damage.

Lots of folks will be late getting home tonight.

Our Daughter's moving to Richmond,VA this week.
You guys trying to make her feel at home?
Our Daughter-in-Law told my Wife that she had a
toilet break,& that there was sheetrock falling down at
the Naval Academy in Annapolis,MD.
There was also (a smaller)one in Colorado,near
Colorado Springs.

Felt it out here on Long Island, but there doesn't appear to be any damage...at least not here at work. Hopefully my house will still be standing when I get home!

Strongest quake here in my lifetime. I had been working on an E type on the lift.... I was sitting at the desk eating a sandwich. I almost beat the cat out of the door....No damage fortunately, but still a mid scale pucker factor.

TR-3 is fine. Took awhile for everyone at the work meeting in Alexandria to figure out it was an earth quake. We didn't even stop the meeting.

Was was the date of the end of the world again?

It was about 30 miles east of here. The scary part is it's literally a few miles from a nuclear power plant (North Anna). The local news reported that the nuke plant is okay.

I was at Wintergreen resort (about 30 miles west of Charlottesville) when it happened. The house shook and then started mildly swaying. The temblor lasted for about 45 seconds, it seemed like much longer. We've had a few aftershocks, very mild ones.

My wife was at home, said dishes were rattling and the floor shook. It got so bad that she ran in the hall and stood in a doorway. She said our cat went nuts and started to run all over the place, dogs howling, etc.

Apparently there's little to no damage in Charlottesville. There may be some closer to the epicenter near Mineral, which thankfully is a very rural area with only a few small towns nearby.

Brick structures, especially old brick structures with no basement foundation are the most vulnerable. Unlike frame houses which have some flexibility, brick is rigid and will crumble if the quake is strong enough.

We had a lighter quake here a few years ago, which prompted me to purchase earthquake coverage on my homeowners policy. Your polciy provides no quake coverage unless you request and pay extra for it.

What's next, pestilence and famine? Sheesh . . .

I was on the road at the time....got home and the wife wasn't gonna tell me.....afraid I'd think she had lost her...you know.
Turned on the tv and relieved her of any worry on that front.

I didn't feel it.... I couldn't have happened......hehehehe
We were drilling 1" lags into the floor to secure a robot base. never noticed it.
