Idiots around here think the best time is around 2 AM.Early start round here, I could hear them going off from about dusk to midnight last night. probably the same the next couple nights...
We have a Husky who is frightened to death of fireworks. The ended around 11:30 around here and it took her another hour to calm down.Surprisingly, folks round here finished by about 11pm last night. Ohio now allows folks to shoot fireworks off from the backyard so I expected a lot more than I saw/heard.
I wish our dog would just hide under the bed. She paces all over, tries to find hiding places in areas she can't fit (like behind the TV / stereo) and will try to climb up in my lap!Fireworks went off here last night until about 10:30. Both of my dogs were under my bed for an hour and a half.
In our neighborhood, it was like WW III from 5 PM and stopped almost entirely around 11:30 PM.Surprisingly, folks round here finished by about 11pm last night. Ohio now allows folks to shoot fireworks off from the backyard so I expected a lot more than I saw/heard.
I envy you. Our Husky is normally very calm and laid back. Gun fire doesn't bother her (we have a rang near us). Not sure what it is about the report of fireworks, but she is inconsolable when they are going off. We tried one of those "Thunder Shirts" buy that was worthless (at least for her).We were very lucky, our black lab couldn't have cared less about fireworks. Didn't bother her at all.

When I was a very little kid, we went to our cousins house to watch him shoot off his fireworks.Wait for it!!

We are going to try the tranquilizers next. Each dog is different so I figure it's worth a shot. There are several different anti-anxiety meds for Dogs The one our vets recommends is Trazodone. Guess we'll find out on New Years! As were whatever tranquilizers my wife got from the vet.
Thunder Shirts were useless for us too.

One shot off horizontally right into the box full of his stash of other rockets.
Talk about pandemonium, but no one miraculously got hurt.
Insane. I was born in the same town as these guys, their displays were part-and-parcel of the July 4th growing up. I never realized just how "different" their shows were until moving away as an adult.Reported on the news here last night, some guy was trying to shoot off some commercial grade fireworks that were designed to be setoff with an electronic signal and wire, seems he tried using a lighter and it exploded. So he isn't coming back home. Lesson, don't mess with them unless you know what you're doing.
When we used to get fireworks it was because it was fun and the kids loved it. And to celebrate. So for me, the answer would be the former. One might ask ... are people using fireworks really to celebrate the Fourth? or just another male attempt to prove "maleness".
It boggles the mind.
