TR4/4A 4A Yellow Blade

I thought the yellow fan wasn't available any more?

No personal experience but I did snap a photo of one at Triumphest the other day...

I think this was on a TR4 but may help you assess the applicability for your 4A.

I have a yellow blade kit from TRF fitted on my TR4 - the quality is very good as usual, and the fan is a marked improvement over the 4 blade original.

On my TR4, I did need to use a fan extender (and dog bolt) from a TR3 to get clearance. I don't have experience on the 4a to say if you'll need that or not.

Regards,
Randy

The TRF kit does not include the extender - I bought a new one from Moss, though I've seen them pretty regularly on ebay as an option. The dog bolt was an ebay buy, but an option would be to just have a machine shop shorten the existing bolt you have.

Probably easiest to take some measurements and see if you need the shorter extension - I can get you some from my TR4 tonight if you need them as reference.

Okay, even though this is a repeat I had a couple of pics available to show the differences and dimensions:

On my TR4, there is approximately 6" of space between the end of the fan pulley and the radiator. The plastic fan is 1.75" wide. With the installed fan, I have 0.75" clearance:

The TR3 fan extension is 0.75" shorter than the TR4 extension, which gave me the clearance:

Here is a pic showing the original fan & extension, along with the replacement setup - lengths are very close to each other:

Thing I don't like about the electric fan on my 3A is the noise - sounds like an electric fan on a new car.

I like the mechanical whoosh when I punch the throtle and hardly use the electric unless absolutely needed.

YMMV

Tropical 6 blade? Haven't located one anywhere. I remember as well in a previous thread about the difficulty finding one.
I am also concerned about the risk of metal fatigue with the existing fan, again from previous thread. The possibility of the fan coming apart and thru hood etc

Tropical fan just sold in the last couple of days for just over $100. Good cond not perfect.

Yep, I was watching that one with interest while it was still below $50 - still not sure if I'd use it over the yellow fan though as I think that works quite well for me.

Randy
