TR5/TR250 4a vs 250 seats

What are the differences between 4a and 250 seats? Can 4a seat frames be modified into 250 spec? Can you just put 250 foam on a 4a frame?

Seat frames are different. The 250 is more like the early TR6 without the headrest. The 4 and 250 seats will interchange on the seat mounting rack but just changing foam and cover won't do it.

By early, I'm guessing you mean 69 TR6 seats with the folding headrest and not the 70-73? (can't recall) fixed headrest seats? Assuming the 69 seats are close could you convert them to 250 seats by removing the headrest mechanism and using 250 foams? I figure it will be difficult to source 250 seats and am looking for alternatives (not that loose 69 seats are any less rare than 250 seats but one takes what one can gets)

69 seats are closer but they are harder to find than the 250 seats. 70-72 seats I think will work. You cut the top metal frame off. If you really want the real 250 seats, I will look to see what I have. I know I have spare set, if I have a second set, I'll PM you details. Give me a couple of days, I'm headed out of town right now.

Tom is referring to me finding/getting a 250, he knows I've been jonesing for one for a while now. It comes with a TR4a and 69 TR6 parts car so I'll be looking to unload parts in the near future.

Wow a TR4A, TR250 and a 69 TR6 in the same deal?

Yep, plus a straight axle 4 and another 69 TR6 to boot. Guy needed it all out of storage so taking multiples made my bid more attractive than everyone else who just wanted the 250 (including the one gent on here who inquired a couple weeks ago about the difference between 4a and 250 bonnets, sorry dude) Moving/storing 3 is sorta feasible. 5 was out of the question. There was a fear the 2nd 6 would fold up in the middle if moved so it will probably go to the crusher unless someone in the Salt Lake area wants the project of a lifetime (or a lifetime project). It was a tossup between the 6 and the 4, someone else in SLC wanted the 4 and the 6 may have usable parts for the 250 so the 6 made the trip. The 4a may also be used for parts or shoved in the corner for a future project. It's hit medium in the rear and has some rust through in the panel over the fuel tank. The 250 was what I was after, a wedgewood factory O/D black plate California car.
