Cannot find the past thread(s) on this but seem to remember that this is a b-a-d- thing,
I had all the U Joints replaced 2 winters ago and rear shock checked and filled. Of late I am noticing the occasional "clunk" when moving the car into reverse. (When the car actually goes into motion) What Is it? Time to go to the bank ?

I think the TR4 is mostly the same as the TR6 on the driveline except you may have the solid axle in which case the following would not apply; On the IRS as I recall the expensive issue is the differential mounting (specifically the front passenger side) point breaking loose; the repair can be as simple (HaHa) as replacing the rubber mounting bushings however if the bad rubber bushings are left too long the action of metal hitting metal will fracture the mounting points and it is a MAJOR welding type repair.

BTW did you go to the Muttart conservatory last June 9th for the British car show? I was there and a great showing of British iron.

I got back the day after (of course) and missed the whole "shew" Would love to see photo's, PM?
Sorry, but still haven't found out the definite cost on the carb rebuild as there was a lot of work in that area of the car at that time
 
My TR4 solid axle has a similar clunk and I too have new u-joints. Recently I have had problems with the rear brakes hanging up and really heating up the wheels. I'm wondering if the brake shoes are sticking slightly and then releasing and causing the clunk. I'm going to work on the brakes this week to see if I can tell.
