'49 Triumph 2000's worth?

I'm not usually on this list, so excuse me crashing in.

I've found an ad for a project Triumph 2000 that needs total rest and the guy's asking $13,000. Now, I've worked at a Jag rest. shop for 25 years, so I know it's worth is based on the condition, but are these really worth that much? Other than my Jags, I always thought that the 2000 was the neatest thing around and i've always wanted one. I recently sold an XKE and want to spend the money on another toy before I spend it on something sensible for my house. Now this triumph popped up, and that got me thinking, and........well , you all know what happens next.

So, before I get in touch with the guy, i'd like some ballpark figures for: a restoration project, a nice driver, and a totally restored car. I'm sure it's like all the other British cars (and we tell our customers all the time)-------Spend more money and get a better car and let the previous owner take the hit for rest. costs.

At least now before I look at it I have a little common sense left to get some info first. Once i'm there looking at it i'll be like a little kid at the check-out aisle and really need that candy bar on the shelf.

Thanks,
Phil.

They are very cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif. A basket case will cost you about $3000+ and a show case model about $24000+. A 1947 sold on ebay in the U.K. las tweek for about $3500 and 47 is on ebay and has not reached it's reserve (# 4613010582). This car does not have an original triumph motor or transmission. What will cost you to restore one of this cars is the chrome and spares. Some spares can be found throungh the Roadster Club https://www.triumphroadster.org and links to a few restorations will give you advice about what to look out for. Cars for sale in the U.K. can be found at https://www.keskom.uwclub.net/saletrc.htm. Wayne /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif trrdster2000 has been a lot of help to me over the last 2 months while I work on my basket case https://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/paulbos@sb.../ph//my_photos. Give it a look, without rose coloured glasses. If you've got any questions just send me an email.

I love to see these cars -- hope you can do the deal and save another one -- though I have no idea what a fair price would be.

Paul -- not sure where you are in CA but there are several beautiful 2000s each year at Triumphest -- the owner in is Encino if I recall correctly.

Paul,

Thanks for the links. I see that a project would be in the $5K to $10K range, so his $13K is high. And I see that in the $25K range I can choose among a few restored cars. At least now if I go look at the car, I can go in with eyes wide open. The one on ebay sold for $10K and it was a lot better than the one I know of.

Thanks for all the info.

Phil.

I'm in Modesto, but I have seen pics of the cars. Currently there are about 20 Triumph Roadsters in California that I know of. I'll take this opportunity to invite everyone to the:

First Annual The First Annual California Triumph Roadster Rally and Show at The 2006 Annual All British Motorcar Show & Swap Meet Dixon, CA
Sunday, May 21, 2006. We are trying to make this annual event at various sites in California bringing together the greatest concentration of 1946-1949 Roadsters outside the U.K. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif I just sent out invites to all the Roadster Club members in CA and anyone else interested should contact me. Unfortunately my car will not be drivable by the show, but it will be there.

If it left hand drive all bets are off on the price, I've only seen one (In Iowa). In total only about 4000 roadster were made from 1946-1949.

I posted a note last spring about how neat I thought these were when I saw one at a local car show.

Hi Guy's, sorry I missed out on this at the beginning, been a little busy. Paul gave some good advise and YES, the chrome will put a dent in the XKE profit. Sure would like to see you get one, as it sounds like you would love it. They will go anywhere you like at 55 or 60 mph, but the top speed was only 84 MPH and mine starts to complain at 65 MPH, ( a 455 Rearend is one problem). I keep looking at a solid axle TR4 rear and wonder if it will fit. The Roadsters track is 4 inches smaller in the front and takes some getting use to. Keep us informed. Wayne
