4" wider TR3 up-date
Well, It's been awhile since I've posted- too busy working on the project. Things are moving right along. I've posted a few new photos on www.photobucket.com. Enter tr3mod in the search field if you are interested. The body shell is now completely done and I'm working on the exterior body panels. The hood was easy, as I had two, so there was only one seam to weld. I only had one trunk lid, so there is a 4 inch piece up the middle of that. The early front apron was a challenge. I had two spares. but both were in very rough shape- not rust, but way out of shape. I built a 'buck' or armature to hold both halves out of wood. This held the two pieces apart the exact revised width I needed, as well as created an exact template along the outer edges to match the fender lines. I decided to be difficult in an effort to keep the basic proportions of the car and added only three inches in the middle and one-half an inch to either edge. I think it turned out fine. As you might be asking, what about the hood that was widened the full four inches in the middle. I very carefully re- contoured the front apron's upper edge tp match the revised hood line. The only panel left to modify is the spare tire cover, and after what I've just been through with the front apron, that should be an easy task! Hope you like what you see, and I'd love your comments and suggestions.
Cheers!
