4 speed?

i have a 74 midget,1275......
it runs but doesnt move yet as i have
no clutch hydro......
its supposed to be a 4 speed...
when shifting im only finding 4 slots...
is my car a 3 speed + reverse or
a 4 speed with a reverse im not finding?
and what is the shifting pattern? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are they all not an H with a third leg to the right and down. Spring loaded, kind of have to pop it right then back.
 
Hi Zimmy,

Being a 1275, your reverse is right and back. While in neutral, move the shifter to the right fairly briskly to overcome the spring that prevents you/us from going to reverse inadvertantly. Once all the way to the right, moving the shift toward the rear of the car will engage reverse.

ive been trying not to "muscle" anything(i tend to break bolts) but ill give it a try in the morning..i wasnt sure so i didnt pressure it either way...thx......zimmy
 
Oh heck, give it a smack.
 
You might have to have someone rock the car to allow it to pop into gear since you are doing this without it running. Occasionally I have to slip the clutch a very little to get mine to ease into reverse.
