This is a good place to say "Amen". So here we go "Amen".

Stuart.

And if you believe some of the New Agers, the world is going through a cosmic upheaval anyway in the year 2012 (the end of the Mayan calendar) so it could all be moot!! What did Nostradamus have to say about all this?

Well put Tony.

:iagree:

I have stayed out of this one but enjoyed reading it. It did offer up some information that I was unaware of and I thank everyone involved for this great thread.

If nothing else at least the Proud Outlier part now makes more sense

Amen

Gee, I come back from lunch and NO NEW POSTS! Everyone must be running out of "diesel" (pun intended).

Maybe the quote above should be the basis of a new thread on an easy topic like:

"The Age of the Earth--4,500 years or 4.5 BILLION years?"

:nonono: OK, Basil, I'm just kidding--after all it is April Fool's Day!

Bad news: I hear there's a one mile+ asteroid out there with "Earth-2012 AD" chiseled in it... and we're woefully unprepared to deal with it. Too much time spent between 1969 and now, learning to drive VW's, sing "Kumbiya" and dancin' to world unity songs...

I want a MOON BASE!

Questions
Co2 is 1.5 times heavier than air, How does it get up to where the ozone is? This has always puzzeled me!
Does the wind blow it up there? If so How does it stay up there? I mean, i`m just a dumb welder, I`m just asking.
Don`t plants utilise Co2 for Photosynthesis? If this is the case and there are excess amounts of co2 in our atmosphere then why arn`t we up to our knees in plant life everywhere?
I can see where deforrestation could have a huge effect on how much co2 doesn`t get utilised by the plant kingdom.
I mean I`m no scientist but ........ Some of this stuff isn`t logical. I`v read that No2 is a culprit in the global warming scenario too .............. well No2 is also heavier than air!

Just asking..........

OOOh! Soooo many questions and no answers...my head is hurting  ! And Andromeda is heading our way on a collision course too!! :eeek:

Woefully unprepared?? Uh-oh, waddawedo ta prepare Doc.??

CO2... I've released enuff into th' atmosphere to supply a rain forest. Every li'l beer I open. "PSST!" It IS heavy but this "soup" we call "air" is a real mix. Mostly Nitrogen, too. Back when we were pokin' holes in th' Ozone layer with CFC's, DuPont was realizing their patent rights were about to expire on THAT (propellant) stuff. Also known as "Freon".

This "Mother Earth" will indeed shrug us off like a bad case of fleas, then continue on her journey. Politics is an engaging passtime for a LOT of humans, most of whom THINK their "team" has all the answers. Hard science seems to be ignored in the main as everything from "too geeky" to "unproved". Tilting at the Collective windmill is still an exercise in futility. If the lemmings wanna charge the cliff edge en masse, I ain't gettin' in the front of th' herd to try dissuadin' 'em. I'd rather stand aside an' holler: "RUN!! RUN FASTER ya SLUG!! THAT sumbich is AHEAD of ya!!!"

Muddying the Forum with it is counterproductive, IMO. I'd rather post Jimmy Buffett's "Fruitcakes" lyrics. :smirk:

WOW!!! I just caught up on this post and all I can say is WOW!!! "Things that make you go HUMMMMMMMMMM....." I have tried to have an open mind when it comes to all of this stuff. Several years ago I started watching the news with an eye toward the truth. I have caught them in lie after lie in reporting "the facts". I try to keep an open mind about everything but when someone like CNN says the sky is falling, I don't even look up anymore. I automatically tune out "creditable" spokesmen and women as preaching their own agenda. I can't take anything said by the mainstream media about this subject as true. Basil, you come off as much more creditable. You don't "have a dog in this fight" as they say. You have nothing to gain or lose by it. I'll try to keep an open mind, but it is becoming very hard not to take a side.

<snip> If I have done nothing more than to at least make some people think outside their comfort zone, then I'm happy. If you don't agree with me, that's ok too.

Cheers,
Basil

Amen to that! If we'd all think outside the comfort zone, and not just make quick choices without finding out where those choices really come from, then we'd all be a lot happier - and a lot more progress would be made.

Thanks Basil.

Dang Doc-

June 21, 1966:

Me and me girlfriend waited in the parking lot of the Twin
Cinemas, with about 2,000 other "almost adults", for the
Master Race UFO's to land and take us all to a better life.

A bit after 11:00 PM we jumped into the Hillman Minx and
skeedaddled to grab a shake and a burger. Fries on the side.

Methinks you wuz takin' Starship a bit to literally back then Dale!! Twas a journey "to the center of your mind"! There is no escape except to the comforts found there!
