where to get? will a spit header fit the midget? I am ready to throw away this pace setter, that i have never been happy about the fit of. And of course the "might as wells" have struck while i am doing my SU conversion....

thanx

Mark,
I'm pretty sure the spit header will not fit a Midget. I like the looks of that header on the Europe site but haven't seen one around here. Where is the pacesetter causing problems? I just put one on with my Weber but didn't find a great deal of issues other than I wasn't too thrilled about the clearance between the bottom of the tub and the exit elbow. I wish they had exhaust flanges on them instead of slip fittings. Once you clamp it, it is more or less permanent.

i have the same trouble wit the fit in that area, to the point that it used to hit agains the frame. i i was never crazy about the two piece design. I just noted that moss US has a 4-2-1 header. I think i will try that one.

Let me know how the 4-2-1 header works out. There isn't much room right in there but hopefully the new one will sort out some of your problems. I've drug mine on enough speed bumps now that it has been reduced to about 70% of its original diameter. New front shocks helped that a bit.

I just parted out a '79 midget that had a one piece 4-2-1 header, but I could not see how they got it in without removing the engine. It was pretty beatup and heavily rusted, so I tossed it out.

I guess maybe they welded it after it was put on the car.

That would have been some pretty good welding. I considered welding my traditional header before dropping it into the car. Instead I welded the elbow onto the rest of the exhaust. Guess I'll catch heck if I have to take it out since the clamps probably deformed the slip connection beyond the point of reusing it.

JC, I always use the stainless band clamps, as they don't distort the pipes at all. An additional benefit is that they act like a slip joint in case you hit something solid with the exhaust.

Thanks for the advice Jeff. I'll remember that next time I have to pull it. Traditionally, I just cut the old slip off and weld a new one on but all that heat takes it's toll of old metal after a couple of cycles.
