With everybody talking of convoying to the Ozark Bash in 2008 it is a good time to talk about 3rd brake lights. There is a reason that new vehicle have them, they are more visible to the driver behind. It is a great winter project that you'll not be sorry to do. I say this, and I haven't done it myself, but it is on the list before I'm rolling again.
 
How you going to do that on a bugeye or is this just a temp thing. Yea you must mean a temp 3rd light on a post or something.
 
The reason for the 3rd brake light is so that you could get a chance of seeing the brakelight of a car in front of the car in front of you etc (as in see the light through the car in front of you)...

With The Spridgets so low the best spot would be on top of the windsheild pointing rearwards, or maybe on a telescoping arm thinking of all the SUV's out there. :smile:
 
On a roll bar would be ideal.
 
I have recently attached a third brake light license plate frame to my '75 Midget. It has a LED brake light on the top of the frame that includes white lights for the number plate. I disconnected the white lights. The frame is a chrome plated, aluminum. I purchased this frame from a street rod supplier. Granted, it is mounted rather low compared to a more visible, higher location, but it is surprisingly visible and at least it makes me feel a bit safer. It is not as big as a magnetic mount light or one from another car that you would have to bolt on the body...I did not want to destroy the originality of the car.
 
I stuck 3 LEDs in the roll bar of the rally car for the 3rd brake light.
JC Whitney sells a $10 stick on 3rd brake light.
Just the thing for the boot if it's temporary.
I have one of those stuck to the back windshield of my Austin A40.
 
I installed a 6 LED third brakelight on my rollbar. Ran the wires inside the rollbar (two 1/8" holes) and spliced it in at the main harness just behind the passenger seat. A friend has one with a magnetic base that he puts on the rear deck between the sets. His is removable so he can put his tonneau cover on by just removing it and sitting it on the parcel shelf behind the seats.
 
I mounted one on a bar that snaps onto the snaps for the boot cover. It has snaps on top of it as well so that the boot cover and tonneau cover can still be used. It is LED and was bought from JCWhitney... I think.
 
I saw one of these in the moss catalog the other day. I think I'd like to add one to my sprite. would you guys mind posting some pictures of what you have come up with?
 
Personally, I'd stay away from a magnet mount. It will very likely mess up your paint.
 
One of my spring projects was to make a windblocker for my midget, using 1/4 inch plexiglass. The brackets will fit on the inside of the 3 convertabile mounting bolts using spacers to clear the mechanism and allow up or down use of the roof. I was going to put the LBCARCO red MG sticker in the middle. With this thread I think I will also add an led third light. It would be really visible with top down, and I guess only visible to those directly behind me through the rear window. Guess I will need to experiment on position and how to hide wires. Some sort of trim across the top to conceal wires
 
My buddy the bodyman has built a little frame he is extremely proud of for another friends bugeye that attaches to the screws away from the center screw on the back surround on the under side made from 1/2" Emt conduit and painted to match the color of the car. It does really look nice! I think (I'm not positive) I have decided on a roll bar and that is where it'll go.
