What size tires are you running on your steel wheels. I have a 3a and would like to find an inexpensive tire, I've read hear about kumhos but haven't found the right size.

Eric,

The PO of my parts car had the Nexen's on his and he liked them. I think that there are others on here that are running them as well.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

Kuhmo does show a Power Star 758 in the right size (165R8015), but a quick search didn't show any place carrying them so not sure if they've been discontinued or not.

Performance Plus Tires shows a BFGoodrich Silvertown and a Michelin XZX available but they are much more expensive (like 3 times as much).

I, too, have the Nexens on one TR and they seem fine for an everyday tire. Size is 165/80x15 (as noted in the above link).

They balanced up just fine w/o a lot of weight (which is sometimes a concern with cheap tires).

I would say they are comparable to the Kuhmos I have on the other TR -- both are Chinese tires which is probably all we're going to get going forward (other than Coker & Vredesteins).

Ah I didn't think to redo the search there since JP's link was showing the Nexen.

Marv,

That was one of the places I checked and they don't list any 165-15 inch tires (at least that I could find either searching by size or searching for a 1960's VW Beetle).

I think that I'll go with the Kumho's the look good and cheap. I put very few miles on it and I'm tired of the flat spots. As well I thin that at least 2 of them are well over 10 years old. Yikes! They show 40 in stock so no problem there.

Try Tire Rack online for the Kuhmo's. I've bought at least 3 sets there in the last year. Can't beat them for the price.

Marv
Three sets??? They don't last very long, do they?

Hi There Tr3aguy,

"Thanx" for the Hds. Up on this tire supplier. I just happen to be looking to buy a set & I`m going to go with these folks. Shipping to SC was approx. $50.00 for all 4 tires; Not Bad at all.

"Thanx Again". You certainly helped my day get off on the right foot!

Regards, Russ

Woohoo my first shout out and good contribution on the forum....No problem at all.
I still had them bookmarked from my same search for tires. I think I went with the Federal Tire SS 657, just what was available at the time. It was a similar tire in price and ratings. Looks like you are good up to 118 mph.....take a pic of the speedo when you get there.
