TR2/3/3A 3A Boot Lid Handle

In an effort to get something positive done on my car today I got all ready to mount the boot lid handle. What can be tough about that, right? Two screws and it's done, right? HAH!
First I find that the square peg doesn't quite fit in the square hole so I have to do a little file work on the square hole. OK I can handle that, but then I notice that the square end is drilled and threaded. I could find nothing in any of my reference material that addresses what goes there. My guess is that it might be a screw and washer of some sort to keep someone from unscrewing the handle and running off with the booty from the boot.
However I figured one of you probably has a more definitive understanding on the subject. So if you would fill me in I would appreciate it.

You are correct, a screw and washer to hold the handle to the latch.

Seems like it was a common thread, I found a screw with a big enough head to to the job. I also found that my handle wanted to 'over rotate' that is not be perfectly aligned with the car when closed... had to add a little shim to the stop to make it right.

This is the formula for all those month-long projects TRs offer up as something quick and simple to do while you're waiting.

I think there are no little tasks, except for topping up the carburetor sumps or straightening the gas cap.

Don't feel bad.......I think it took me three tries to get the handle on correctly so the lock would work, etc. Nothing is as simple as it seems!
